In the weeks following President Trump’s now-deleted tweet, over twenty trademark applications have been filed pertaining to “covfefe.” Many simply are word marks for COVFEFE; meanwhile, two applications have been filed for both COVFEFE COFFEE and #COVFEFE, and one application attempts to make COVFEFE into an acronym.
Unsurprisingly, none of the applicants have a connection to the President. Unless the President was able to make a valid use in commerce of COVFEFE third-parties may have a possible claim to rights in the mark by others willing to invest in registration and use in commerce of the mark.
